Training / Fundraising / Updates

Trenton Fund Raiser
Thank you for all the people who helped with the Fund Raiser this past weekend.
It was very successful.

Medical-Fest Opportunity
We are looking for doctors and nurses that could legally sign our medical applications. We are looking at using the Mascoutah Leu Civic Center and have athletes come in and do an annual medical application. This way we can as an organization stay on top of the medical application process.

Looking to get it organized for December.

MANDITORY - Coaches Training
There will be a coaches meeting on 30 October at 6:00 at the Leu Civic Center. If you coach a Without Limits-Team Galaxy team, please make this meeting. It will be to discuss coaches training and upcoming requirements. Special Olympics and Special Olympics Illinois will be requiring coaches to be certified in the sport they will be training/coaching. This will require the coaches to complete several training blocks to be a certified coach. You will also have to have a current Class A on file. Coaches will have to attend this training to become a certified coach for their sport. This is going to be a mandated through SOIL soon, so we are trying to get a head oft he ball game.

We are working with the regional office to see if we can have a training session for our organizations sometime in December. If a person wants to coach a sport, please email [email protected] and tell us which sport they want to do. This way we can make the arrangements with the regional office for the training. If you have any questions, please contact Rich at 406-2727.

Fall Coach Meeting - REGION J (Highly recommended)

Date – October 23 @ 6PM
Location – New Region J Office, 111 S. Washington, Trenton, IL 62293
Parking – Street parking is available
Come learn what’s new with Special Olympics Illinois. 2025 is setting up to be an exciting year!

CALL TO ACTION!!! -- Leu Civic Center UPDATE
The Leu Civic Center is starting to prepare to put in the new floor into the gym. They are seeking help on 21 October at 1:30. They are needing assistance to bring supplies into the center. Once they get the material inside, it will take approximately ten days to finish the project.

We are trying to get a detail to assist them.
Spread the word to see if we can get a crew out there to assist them!!!

This is a way we can give back to the center. Contact Rich if you are available.

Membership Communication
A larger effort to improve communications through our membership is being worked on. This will include options for all so information on activities, dance and sports quickly and accurately shared. More to come!!!

October 24th classes are canceled
The next class will be on November 7, which will be hip hop.
Please feel free to wear your Halloween costumes to this class - we will celebrate then!

WEDNESDAYS:

Rhythmic Gymnastics @ 5:30 (please reach out if interested in this) - THIS HAS NOT STARTED YET. WE WILL UPDATE WHEN IT BEGINS! Mari Seper has more info
Nationals practices - See post on the FB page an update about this. These will move to either Thursday evening or Saturday. They are POSTPONED until January for the time being.
Nutcracker will be on an individual basis. I will reach out to you directly for practice days/times

Thursdays:

5-5:30 Elementary (ages 4-7 or
5:30 - 6:15 Jazz/Tap/Hip Hop Ballet BOYS 11+ (an email reminder of what genre for the week will be sent)
6:20 - 7:05 Jazz/Tap/Hip Hop/Ballet GIRLS 8+ (tomorrow is TAP!)
Competition team & Nationals team will resume in JANUARY

Rhythmic Gymnastics

Begins November 20th at 5:30 pm.
It will be held at Without Limits room at Stars R Us

Sports & Athletics

Basketball

Basketball will start on 5 November (Tuesday) at the Mascoutah Leu Civic Center at 6:00 PM.
Assessments will be conducted on 5 November and 7 November. Practices will be on Tuesday and Thursdays.
Each team will be assigned a time on one of the days. Example: Skill will practice on Thursdays at 6:00 at the Leu Civic Center.

Three Team "intents" have been filed with Area J Offices on October 8th
Several camps and scrimmages are being organized for after Thanksgiving.
A tournament in December to assist in getting divisions for the regional tournament.
There will also be a tournament in Springfield. I have talked to several teams in St. Louis.
Mascoutah High School is looking at doing a camp with our teams.

Snow Shoe

Practices will begin on October 19th at the Scheve Park @ 10:30AM
Assessment will be completed at this time

Flag Football

Practice at 6:00 at Laderman.
State will be on 2 November 2024

Volleyball

Skills coaches will be sending emails with updates.

Bowling

Coach will be sending out emails
Sectional Bowling and Unified Bowling
Entries – DEADLINE PASSED
Event Date – 11/3/24 at St. Clair Bowl
**Unified Bowling is an official event this year. Medals will be awarded and gold medal winners will be eligible to advance to state bowling.**

Floor Hockey

Practice for hockey with be on October 26th @ 9AM
Practice make ups will be done at a later date

Interested in Bags? Cornhole? Kickball? Handball?
WLTG is looking to find out what the interest is in Cornhole (bags), kickball and handball.

Cornhole is a Unified and traditional sport.
Handball is a sport like soccer and basketball. A demonstration will be done to show the game.
I am also trying to find out if parents or athletes would be interested in Unified soccer. It would have their own season during the summer.
State for Unified soccer is in September.
