For efficiency, no heats will be held if an athlete is not where they need to be when their division is called. Athletes who are not present will be scratched and will not be able to compete in the event. If you have a conflict with an athlete in two events scheduled at the same time, this needs to be communicated as soon as possible on the conflict form. Track events take precedent over field events. Please remember No advertising or sponsorship is allowed to be worn on competition uniforms or warm-ups. Athletes will not be allowed to wear jewelry or awards during competition. No jeans, jean shorts, street shoes or other non-athletic attire will be allowed to be worn during the competition. Athletes will be expected to dress appropriately for the weather and competition. Athletes not in the proper attire will be disqualified. All participants in Athletics events must wear athletics shorts or sweat pants, appropriate running shoes and competition tops In the previous Coach Handbook, it stated the Pentathlon Running Long Jump was tentatively slated for Friday afternoon. That has moved to Saturday morning beginning at 8:00 AM. That has been corrected on the Schedule on the website. |

Housing
Housing for WLTG athletes and coaches is at Illinois State University: Haynie Hall 8th Floor.
Please see link for “Suggested Packing List” link above for dorms. Please remember to TRY to pack light. We may have a top floor and if the elevators are not working that means we are carry them up. I once had an athlete that brought TEN bags for the weekend!!! Wristbands must always be worn, including coaches, Unified partners and athletes. Please assure your athlete keeps it on until they depart the Summer Games. Wristbands are color coded to indicate where individuals are staying and dining. Wristbands are needed for access into the residence and dining halls. All registered coaches, Unified partners and athletes assigned housing will have access to residence halls 24 hours a day.
Pets are not allowed in the residence halls. Only official service and trained guide dogs are allowed in residence halls. It is recommended that spectators not bring dogs to Summer Games. General guidelines would be to group coaches with athletes first by sport then by sex, age, and finally by event. Coaches or volunteers will be given a separate room unless it is their own child they wish to share a room with in the dorms.
WLTG should be completely familiar with the medical conditions, precautions and medication requirements of the athletes. If they are taking medications or have a specific condition, WLTG needs to be aware of please email me so I can put it on a tracking sheet. Please put medications in a separate envelope if they are staying in the dorms. I am well aware of medical procedures as I once was a paramedic for years and we do have several nurses as parents. It is the coach’s responsibility to administer medication. Knowledge of the medication regimen (what, when and how much) is essential. Refrigerators will not be available for storing medications. Special Olympics Illinois will not have volunteers available to administer medication or injections. Arrangements should be made to have injections given by the agency’s own qualified staff or at a local hospital.
